ICE San Diego Arrests Mexican National with Second-Degree Murder Conviction

Alfonso Duran, a previously deported criminal alien, was taken into custody by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations and will remain detained pending immigration proceedings.

San Diego Newsline Staff · Thursday, October 8, 2026

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced Tuesday that its San Diego field office arrested Alfonso Duran, a Mexican national illegally present in the United States with a prior conviction for second-degree murder.

In a post on X, the official ICE San Diego account stated: "ICE San Diego arrested Alfonso Duran, a criminal illegal alien from Mexico. Duran has convictions for 2nd degree murder, reckless driving, and DUI. Duran will remain in ICE custody pending immigration proceedings."

The post from @EROSanDiego, the official account of ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations San Diego field office, did not specify the date of Duran's arrest or the jurisdiction where the murder conviction occurred.

The arrest follows a broader pattern of heightened ICE enforcement under the Trump administration. According to the Department of Homeland Security, ICE has prioritized the arrest and removal of criminal aliens with serious violent felony convictions.

Duran's second-degree murder conviction carries significant weight under federal immigration law, which makes aliens convicted of aggravated felonies subject to mandatory detention and removal. Duran will remain in ICE custody while immigration proceedings are pending.
